MDM Lab

The MDM laboratory based at the University of Florence includes a variety of experimental facilities to characterize the rotodynamics and the tribological performance of journal bearings. Specific attention is paid to turbomachinery applications with the test bench.
The test rig has a maximum speed of 40000 RPM, and can go up to a power of 30 kW, with a bearing diameter that can range between 55 and 110 mm. The excitation is passive, i.e., by means of unbalancing mass, or by shakers and other active systems. A short video is included.
